Urban Summer Uniform

I'm a huge fan of simple outfits. You will never ever (never say never) see me wearing earrings+a necklace+arm cuffs+rings at the same time.

I know those three basics above could use a nice little accessory, however, I must admit I love this fashionable trio just the way it is. (even though the dress definitely needs something underneath, seems to be quite see-through and we don't want to share everything with the urban jungle right.)

Casual Statement

Simple outfit - simple post. Let's keep it short and sweet. Sometimes one single eye-catching piece is enough to impress. In my case I think that one necklace and one picture do the trick. Impressed..?

The Wardrobe's Basic Space

They say the most difficult thing is to find the perfectly fitting jeans. And I must admit, it's not easy indeed but for me, there's another hard nut to crack - finding the perfect crisp white t-shirt.
Can there be more casual chic than in the combination of a pair of (perfectly fitting, of course) jeans and a plain white shirt? No. Exactly.
However, the white shirt issue is a tricky one. You think the shirt is perfect, it will make you look like the queen of casual chic and then you try it on and oh nooo - it's see through. Again. I have nothing against see-through blouses and see-though shirts but my idea of a classic crisp white t-shirt doesn't involve any of that.

The key to the problem? Invest. Believe me, I tried on almost every white shirt the high street has to offer and sadly, the less money you're willing to pay, the more see-through you are going to get.

So, as hard as you will find it to spend quite a lot of money in a small piece of cloth such as the classic T by Alexander Wang shirt on the left (here) or the V-neck form Velvet (here) on the right, I can assure you this investment will be worth it. No see-through + perfect fit = happy wardrobe = happy you.

Compared to the t-shirt blanc, the strategy for the colourful shirts in the middle is easy peasy and if I want to find a great grey shirt (here), I either look into my boyfriend's wardrobe (a see-through free zone) or I go to COS, my personal Mekka for pastel t-shirts. And if you happen to have some money over to invest in a colourful shirt as well, go for the beautiful pastel pink one (here) and fall in love with it's silk and linen material mix.

Hello Tiger

Shirt: Kenzo // Blazer: Milkaya Laijah // Jeans: Mango // Bag: Michael Kors // Boots: Office

Quality, not quantity, that's something I've heard a lot these days. No matter if I talk to my friends or if i read it on blogs, it's clear that more and more of us tend to avoid tons of high street purchases but rather invest our money in high quality pieces.

But as you can see in my outfit above, high street and high end get on really well so why ban Mango, H&M and Zara from our wardrobes if we know anyway that this is impossibly?

For me and I'm sure for a lot of you too, mix and match is definitely the key and usually does the trick. There's nothing more awful than a total designer look and nothing more wonderful than a well combined high street meets high end outfit, n'est-ce pas?

Busy Bee

As you might have noticed, the fashion apartment has been pretty quiet during the last week. The reason for this unusual silence was my big Berlin mission - the flat hunt! Oh yes, you got that right, the fashion apartment is going to move to the German capital soon and my wardrobe, my dressing table and the lounge are craving a roof over their heads! So I spent last week running from one flat to the other, from North to South, from East to West and tried to find the perfect new place for my wardrobe & co.

The perfect outfit for the flat mission? A pair of loose trousers (H&M), boots that are not too high so you can run if you happen to arrive late at a flat viewing (Office), a comfy shirt,(UO), a big enough clutch for all the requested documents (Monki) and for the right portion of luck my favourite necklaces from Pascale Monvoisin.

Black & Blue

via Polyvore

When I was 10, a girl at school looked at me and said: "what? you are wearing a blue shirt with black trousers? what a no-go!"

I always thought of this as my first fashion faux pas (I'm sure there were some more but this was the first time someone actually commented on it) and since then I tried to avoid the combination of black and blue as much as I could.

Today I think - how stupid! Doesn't the blue sweater just look amazing with the black leather trousers?! I could definitely think of way worse combinations! So I can't wait to bring a nice and cosy dark blue sweater in my life, put a pair of black trousers on, add some white converse trainers and a white bag and just feel fabulous!

and who knows, maybe I will bump into that girl from school and teach her a little fashion lesson..?

hair down - trainers on!

Shirt: Topshop // Leggins: Zara // Bag: Michael Kors // Trainers: UO

My wardrobe and dressing table are slightly confused. The reason for their confusion is a small but mighty change in my look. As you may have noticed, I usually wear a pony tail or a high bun - and I've been doing this for years! For some reason I just didn't feel comfortable letting my hair down even though my dressing table always sighs when I tame my blonde thatch in the morning. However, I decided it's time for a change in 2013! So I take the step and let my hair down every now and then and I must say.. I'm getting quite used to it!

Different change of habits: there are trainers on my feet. And not because I'm going to the gym. I usually love to wear heels, no matter if it's high heels, boots or even sandals. Now don't get me wrong, we are not talking about killer heels here, a decent 5 to maximum 10 cm usually does the trick for me. Ballet flats are ok, too, but trainers were barely seen on my feet on the street (unless I went out jogging). So when I got those bad boys form Urban Outfitters I could litterally see question marks popping up in my wardrobe: "What is she thinking?" "Since when am I storing her gym equipment?" "Where is the bloody heel?!"

Well, it took some time for my wardrobe to get used to the fact that those trainers are a part of my clothing repertoire and today it even approved of the outfit above.

So, to sum it up: Me, a big creature of habit, is starting to change some things lookwise and I have to say it feels very good so far - my hair is free & my feet don't hurt.

I guess I killed two birds with one stone here?

Nude

Blouse & Jeans: H&M // Scarf: Alexander McQueen // Boots: Office // Bag: Mango

Nude, Camel, Beige. These colors always do the trick for me and that's quite obvious once you take a look inside my fashion apartment. My wardrobe has a pretty nice collection with several beige and camel colored blouses, scarves and shirts and my dressing table is proud of it's big selection of nude nail polishes and lip sticks.

..and as my dog Vasco matches the camel-nude trend quite well by adding some black and white highlights (this dog knows a lot about style), I thought this was the perfect occasion to introduce him to you!

sadly I have to leave the fashion apartment and Vasco again for the weekend as I am off to Dublin to visit my friend Claire! I've never been there before but I guess I can leave my light blouses and suede boots at home as according to the weather forecast it's going to rain cats and dogs!

I will keep you updated via instagram!

British Presents

Shirt: Kenzo // Trainers: UO
The Woman Who Went to Bed For a Year // The Great Gatsby
Beauty Fav: MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

.. as I said last week, I don't really like to come back to the fashion apartment empty handed - especially my wardrobe is always very disappointed and gets quite moody if it doesn't get new nice things to host from time to time. And when I go to London my wardrobe literally expects me to come back with nice things as it is convinced there is no better place to shop on earth!

So you can imagine it was quite delighted about the green Kenzo shirt I bought in the Open Ceremony store at Covent Garden. I just realized at home how well it matches the new trainers I bought at Urban Outfitters.

But this time not only my wardrobe got spoilt, but my lounge and dressing table got some pretty nice gifts as well. I love reading English books and the Great Gatsby has been on my to-read list for a long time so it has a special place in my lounge now and waiting for me to start reading it

Last but not least, I bought my favorite MAC concealer - I guess I'm not the only one who is a big fan of this product because it was sold out at almost every MAC store I went to - however, I didn't give up the chase for my beloved concealer (my boyfriend probably knows what I am talking about, he had to deal with my frustration about not finding the bloody concealer for several days) and finally found my object of desire at Harvey Nichols.

.. ah, and one last (and really great) thing! Check out the blog "Das gewisse Etwas" from the lovely blogger Katharina and participate in her "blog presentation" - an amazing idea for small blogs to get more attention!

Out and About

Shirt: Topshop // Statement Necklace: Asos // Skirt: Zara // Bracelet: H&M // Clutch: Pieces

As you might tell from the brickstones, I was in London again - there wasn't really much left from fashion week but I made sure that there was enough fashion left for me - I think it's very unpolite to come back to my fashion apartment empty handed without some little presents to give to my wardrobe, my dressing table and my lounge! However, I'm afraid I have to show you what's new in my fashion apartment a bit later on as I'm going to leave it again tomorrow - I will go to Cannes for the weekend and join my nan who is there on holiday - oh my, I guess this means I have to bring back even more presents..

How to make the sun shine

Blouse: Zara // Skirt: Etoile Isabel Marant // Necklace & Bag: Vintage

I guess I am not the only one who is starting to get rid of the cold and grey weather we're having in Germany at the moment. So, I asked myself, what could I do in order to brighten up this foggy Sunday? Well, a last-minute trip to a sunny island was obviously not very realistic so my wardrobe suggested to wear at least some pastel colours which actually lifted my mood. So today I wore my skirt by Etoile Isabel Marant for the first time and I am very happy I bought it - it's super comfy and the pattern goes with a lot of shirts that are hanging in my wardrobe. Too bad I had to hide this outfit under my coat for almost the whole day, pastel colours might lift your spirit but they definitely don't make the minus 2 degrees disappear!

The Fashionapartment's NYFW fight

all pics via Style.com

..sure you want to come in today? You are always very welcome in the fashion apartment - but I warn you, my lounge and my wardrobe are in a big big fight! So be careful, you never know if one of them throws a shoe or a vase across the room!

Ok.. so you're still there? And you want to know what caused the big fight? Well, I will explain it to you:

As you can imagine, my fashion apartment loves the Fashion Week season so the shows in New York are a big subject in my fashionable flat this week. However, my lounge and my wardrobe rarely share the same opinion when it comes to the latest runway looks - the lounge is always interested in new and uncommon styles and designs whereas my wardrobe likes wearable, feminine and classy pieces. You see, quite a lot of "disagreement potential".

So after the lounge had seen the Alexander Wang collection it tried to convince me of how great and unconventional it is and that I absolutely need to get pieces like this into my life. Uuuh oh.. when my wardrobe heard about this, the lounge was in big big trouble! Clothes in this bulky style should be moving in soon? No way! So apart form throwing shoes into the lounge, my wardrobe started to convince me to look at the runways looks from Rebecca Minkoff instead, that, in his opinion, were much more me than those sad colours and boxing gloves A.Wang had to offer! Well, the lounge - of course - disagreed so everyone began shouting and screaming (apart from the dressing table - who - as per usual - didn't get the chnce to express himself yet).

and what about me..?

Well. I guess I have to agree with my wardrobe (uh oh, a vase is just about to hit me)

Unlike a lot of opinions from the fashion universe (including my lounge but you know that now), I'm just not a fan of Wang's collection. And I like it even less when I compare it to collections like Minkoff's or Rachel Zoe's who created looks that bring out the best in a woman. And who make women look good! Ok, I must admit, Wang's idea with the boxing gloves, the boxing inpired collection in general, is new and fresh and the texture mix is interesting - but I don't think it's feminine. And those bulky silhouettes will only make few women look good.

So I get my lounge's point of view, runway looks like A.Wang's fall collection are inspiring and pieces of art - but I think me and my wardrobe are happy about all those looks that maybe don't make me a masterpiece (and don't draw the attention to 100 street style photographers) but that actually are flattering. Just like those cute Rebecca Minkoff's dresses.

.. so I guess I rather live in my wardrobe for a while. it's safer than in the lounge.
and what about you? Who do you stick to? To my wardrobe or to my lounge?

Dressed Up

Dress: A no-name boutique in Paris / Belt: H&M

Bonjour from the Fashion Apartment! As you can see, it's another wardrobe post and the lounge and dressing table are starting to get jealous - but I just couldn't help writing a post about one of my favorite dresses - I bought it in Paris last year and sadly I can't tell you the name of the brand as there is none (I searched for it everywhere but no result!) - probably because I got it from one of those countless no-name boutiques Paris has to offer. Anyway, this dress caught my eye immediately. I love the print and the fringes, it's the perfect dress for going out for drinks or to parties! Unfortunately I can't wear it as often as I want to at the moment because it's freeeeezing cold where I live - and it's definitely not the ideal dress for a walk in the snow!

Allrounder

Denim Shirt, Leggins & Boots: Zara // Bag: Vintage

I know I know, denim shirts are nothing new but somehow I discovered them for myself only a while ago - why didn't anyone tell me in how many great ways you can style them? Well, better late than never, right? So now that I have discovered this little allrounder, I would like to combine it with as many different pieces as possible - the look above is quite simple and casual but I think denim shirts also look really nice with a skirt and heels - what do you think?

Bienvenue!

My wardrobe is always very excited whenever a new piece is joining us. Today it proudly presents our latest purchase - a skirt from Etoile Isabel Marant! When I first saw it at Net-à-Porter, I knew I had to have it - luckily I waited until the Sales arrived and got it with a 50% discount, yippiiie! So now I only have to wait for the right weather to wear it and then I hope my wardrobe will borrow it to me - you must know, my wardrobe can get very jealous when it likes something! So let's hope it will be generous and hand that skirt over from time to time so I can show you how I wear it.

'cos I love COS.

Jumper: COS // Legging: French Connection // Boots: Zara // Clutch: Vintage // Necklaces: Pascale Monvoisin // Arm Cuffs: COS & Cheap Monday

This COS jumper is probably my best winter sale purchase of 2013 so far. It's super comfy and with its pastel colour it is perfect for rather fresh spring days. So, once again a piece from COS that made it to my wardrobe favorites. It is definitely one of my favorite stores when it comes to basics - in my opinion it's hard for other high street labels to beat them in this respect. I love their clean and minimalist designs and I'm always really satisfied with the quality. What about you, are you a COS fan as well? I'm really looking forward to the launch of "& Other stories" - by the sounds of it, it's going to be something for COS lovers!
