The Fashion Apartment Lightens Up

As the fashion apartment moved to Berlin in April, interior and decoration is a big topic at the moment. As much as I love nice furniture, prints and all kinds of decoration - my real passion are lamps. 

The right lighting can change the whole atmosphere of a room and for me there's nothing worse than really bright fluorescent light (as you often find in hospitals and unfortunately in a lot of households, too). It just gives me headaches and immediately sets me in a bad mood.

However - the right light is only complete if it's surrounded by a really nice lamp. Those four beauties above are my absolute favourites and I think they suit the fashion apartment quite well.

so I hope one or two of them will find there way to my Berlin home and brighten up the lounge, the dressing table and the wardrobe very soon.

The Berlin flat and I have been sharing a roof for one month now and i must say that I am so happy I found you, my beloved little place. You offer enough room to all of my small and not so small possessions, both colours and minimalsitic design suit you well, you're bright, you're warm, you're old in a charming way and you're so nice that even the cherry trees and birds in the garden prefer to be as close as possible to you.

You're the perfect place because not only I but also my friends love to hang out with you and therefor I am more than happy to stay with you for a while.

.. as I said last week, I don't really like to come back to the fashion apartment empty handed - especially my wardrobe is always very disappointed and gets quite moody if it doesn't get new nice things to host from time to time. And when I go to London my wardrobe literally expects me to come back with nice things as it is convinced there is no better place to shop on earth!

So you can imagine it was quite delighted about the green Kenzo shirt I bought in the Open Ceremony store at Covent Garden. I just realized at home how well it matches the new trainers I bought at Urban Outfitters.

But this time not only my wardrobe got spoilt, but my lounge and dressing table got some pretty nice gifts as well. I love reading English books and the Great Gatsby has been on my to-read list for a long time so it has a special place in my lounge now and waiting for me to start reading it

Last but not least, I bought my favorite MAC concealer - I guess I'm not the only one who is a big fan of this product because it was sold out at almost every MAC store I went to - however, I didn't give up the chase for my beloved concealer (my boyfriend probably knows what I am talking about, he had to deal with my frustration about not finding the bloody concealer for several days) and finally found my object of desire at Harvey Nichols.

1,5 Years Of Paris

Sadly I couldn't share my last 1,5 years of Paris with you as I decided to launch Allure only after leaving the French capital. However, I would like to share with you the magazine that followed me through all the 72 weeks I spent in France - ELLE.

I used to run down to the magazine store every single Friday and bought my weekly treat. The guy who sold them already knew me well, as soon as I entered his shop he threw my fav' magazine over to me, I threw a 2-€ piece back to him and we were both happy.

So, why ELLE you wonder? Well, I am a huge fan of print magazines in the first place. I know, today it's so easy to read everything online but isn't it way better to hold loads of pages of fashion, beauty and interesting articles in your hands instead of only staring on them through a screen? Also, ELLE stands for strong and opinionated French women - I think there is no magazine that reflects the French female power as well as ELLE does. It might be less "high fashion" than Vogue but that didn't keep me from running down to my magazine store every Friday.

So it turns out that this small collection is my documentation of 1,5 years in Paris. When I move to Berlin again next month I will show you how useful "Le ELLE" will be in my lounge...

But before that I say good bye for a few days because now it's not about 1,5 years à Paris but a few days in London again - so I already wish you a "bon week-end", les 'elles'! 

The Fashionapartment's NYFW fight

..sure you want to come in today? You are always very welcome in the fashion apartment - but I warn you, my lounge and my wardrobe are in a big big fight! So be careful, you never know if one of them throws a shoe or a vase across the room! 

Ok.. so you're still there? And you want to know what caused the big fight? Well, I will explain it to you:

 As you can imagine, my fashion apartment loves the Fashion Week season so the shows in New York are a big subject in my fashionable flat this week. However, my lounge and my wardrobe rarely share the same opinion when it comes to the latest runway looks - the lounge is always interested in new and uncommon styles and designs whereas my wardrobe likes wearable, feminine and classy pieces. You see, quite a lot of "disagreement potential".

So after the lounge had seen the Alexander Wang collection it tried to convince me of how great and unconventional it is and that I absolutely need to get pieces like this into my life. Uuuh oh.. when my wardrobe heard about this, the lounge was in big big trouble! Clothes in this bulky style should be moving in soon? No way! So apart form throwing shoes into the lounge, my wardrobe started to convince me to look at the runways looks from Rebecca Minkoff instead, that, in his opinion, were much more me than those sad colours and boxing gloves A.Wang had to offer! Well, the lounge - of course - disagreed so everyone began shouting and screaming (apart from the dressing table - who - as per usual - didn't get the chnce to express himself yet). 

and what about me..?

Well. I guess I have to agree with my wardrobe (uh oh, a vase is just about to hit me) 

Unlike a lot of opinions from the fashion universe (including my lounge but you know that now), I'm just not a fan of Wang's collection. And I like it even less when I compare it to collections like Minkoff's or Rachel Zoe's who created looks that bring out the best in a woman. And who make women look good! Ok, I must admit, Wang's idea with the boxing gloves, the boxing inpired collection in general, is new and fresh and the texture mix is interesting - but I don't think it's feminine. And those bulky silhouettes will only make few women look good.

So I get my lounge's point of view, runway looks like A.Wang's fall collection are inspiring and pieces of art - but I think me and my wardrobe are happy about all those looks that maybe don't make me a masterpiece (and don't draw the attention to 100 street style photographers) but that actually are flattering. Just like those cute Rebecca Minkoff's dresses.

.. so I guess I rather live in my wardrobe for a while. it's safer than in the lounge.

Objects of Desire

Spring fever. This is what's going on in my fashion apartment. The lounge is craving for flowers, white candles and bright furniture, my wardrobe fell in love with this gorgeous Acne blazer and my dressing table dreams of this YSL pastel eye shadow. And the worst thing is: They always want everything at the same time. And they can't wait a few weeks or months - nooo - they want it straight away! Well.. let's see what they will get. One thing is for sure - they all have rather good taste.

Introducing Pale Pink to Brickstones

That's one of my favorite outfits at the moment - quite simple but it can be upgraded with the right accessories. My current favorites are the leggings from French Connection as they're so so comfy and go with pretty much everything. They have some sort of velvet/suede texture that makes them a real eye-catcher. I bought another pair of them in a brighter colour and as I hardly ever buy the same thing twice, this means quite a lot!

Ok. So after seeing the Chloé Pre-Fall 2013 pics I told myself: "Vic, that's it, I think you won't see somethingy you like that much for quite a while." - well, that was before I saw those amazing Balmain looks! Balmain became one of my favorite brands in 2012 and I think it will remain one of my favorites in 2013. Love the high waisted skirts, trousers and opulent material mixtures - sophisticated and feminine silhouettes.

Oh Boy!

I think it's time to share with you what fashionistos - yep, Fashionistos with an O - wear on the streets this year. I discovered those amazing street style pics of Paris Men Fashionweek on Elle.fr and I must say that these gentlemen have a great sense of style! Quite honestly: It's been a while since I looked at fashion week street style pics without wondering: ok, what's going on here - is it about "dress to impress" or rather "dress like a mess"? The only thing that counts is being caught by the cameras and therefor it seems as if outfits must be as edgy as possible. I certainly don't want to offend anyone's style because after all fashion is supposed to be fun and should give you the chance to express yourself - but why is it then that so many "street stylers", wearing the craziest outfits, don't express that much fun at all? Anyway, this is my opinion and that's why I was even more delighted to see those fashionable guys below. By combining classy pieces with only a few edgy ones, they create really inspiring outfits and quite frankly, I think we girls could take some fashion advice from those boys. I was never really into men street wear but looking at those pics, I think I am about to change my mind!

Showroom: Chloé Pre-Fall 2013

This is love at first sight. The pics of the Chloé Pre-Fall collection 2013 during the NY Press Days simply left me speechless this afternoon - this looks like Fashion Wonderland! I am a huge fan of Chloé anyway but I think I have never liked a collection as much as I like this one. I'm in love with the nude and pastel colours, the playful dresses and sophisticated silhouettes. And I think this fall's absolute highlight will be the tri-color bag above - what an amazing material mix!
